Gov. Oshiomole bows out as Obaseki is sworn in.

Mr. Godwin Obaseki has been sworn in as the Fifth democratically elected governor of Edo state in a ceremony held today in Benin the state capital.

The event officially marks the end of Adam Oshiomole's two tenures as governor.

Obaseki who emerged victorious in the gubernatorial election held last month was the candidate of the ruling party APC and a protégé of outgoing governor Oshiomole. He defeated the candidate of the PDP, Pastor Ize Iyamu.

A number of protests were witnessed across the state as members of the PDP and supporters of Ize Iyamu expressed desatisfaction with the conduct of the polls.

Several individuals and observer groups have come out to criticize the role of security agencies and the electoral commission in what they termed 'wide spread irregularities'. INEC however have denied any wrong doing.

Pastor Iyamu has described the emergence of Obaseki as a rape on democracy and vowed to reclaim his stolen mandate. He always said the swearing-in of Obaseki as governor is only temporary, stating that the people's will would prevail in the end.
