‘Governor Fayose is dangerous and a threat to the law,’ APC says

Image
Peter Ayodele Fayose Fayose had reportedly accused Buhari of plotting to islamize Nigeria while speaking during a ceremony in Rivers State on Friday, February 26, 2016. The Ekiti APC issued its reaction via a statement released by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun on Sunday, February 28, 2016. The statement reads: “We know Fayose as a devious schemer in the game of subterfuge with uncanny capacity to stoke public rage against his innocent opponents.” “He is deliberately engaging the President relentlessly in his uncouth outbursts so that when the Nigerian law is being applied to take care of his many crimes against the state, he can then start his propaganda that he is being haunted for criticising the President.” “If anyone is guilty of religious bigotry, it is Fayose who did not deem it fit to consider Muslims for appointments in his administration whereas he gave Christians almost 98 per cent of the appointments into the State Executive Council, parastat

Information Minister explains why war against corruption is one-sided.

Image
Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, says the fight against corruption in Nigeria looked one-sided because the indicted persons on trial are connected to one transaction that is currently being investigated.    Mr Mohammed told Channels Television on Sunday that the persons facing trial were all connected to the investigation of how the fund meant for the purchase of military equipment was used. He claimed that some members of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) were also being investigated for other corruption cases which he did not mention. “If you go to the EFCC today and ask them who are the people that are facing charges before them, you are going to find as many APC and as many PDP [Peoples Democratic Party]. “However, what gives the impression that the fight is one sided is the fact that it is simply one issue that is being investigated now. That is money meant to buy arms which was diverted for other uses and unfortunately, everybody involved

Supreme Court: We did not sack Uba, Oduah, others.

Image
THE Supreme Court yesterday explained its January 29 judgment in relation to the leadership dispute in the Anambra chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The court said the judgment did not resolve the question relating to the legitimacy or otherwise of the list of candidates submitted for the National Assembly election by the factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, because the issue was not before it. By implication, the Supreme Court ruled that Senators Stella Oduah and Andy Uba, and other PDP lawmakers in Anambra State are to retain their seats. It said although it upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, to the effect that the Ejike Oguebego-led Executive Committee of the Anambra PDP was the authentic body to run the party’s affairs, it did not say the Oguebego Exco could assume the responsibilities of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). Justice John Okoro, who read the lead ruling of a five-man bench, sai

The party said it was also aware of plans to “arrest and detain the Deputy Senate

Plus One or Minus One

“What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.” Every once in year there is that special day in the lives of everyone. The day we commemorate our grand entries into the world, that reminds us the day we took our first breaths, the day we began our great sojourn, the day our loving mothers travailed in labour and prevailed. The day our tiny crying voices wiped away every pain of delivery our mothers suffered and brought laughter and happiness to everyone around us. The day we mark our birthdays. You would agree with me that birthdays are considered one of the most important days in a person's life. Little wonder people attach so much relevance to it,(some probably more than others). There are plenty relationships that have been strained because one party forgot the birthday of the other or did not mark it in a way that was expected of them. I do not blame them much, a birthday is special and the celebrant ought to be tre

Woman who stole a baby 18 years ago appears in court after the child met her sister with striking resemblance..

Image
A woman charged with stealing a newborn baby 18 years ago appeared briefly in a South African court Monday, in a case that came to light only when school pupils noticed a startling resemblance between a student and a new girl. The case in the Cape Town High Court was postponed until Tuesday by Judge John Hlophe after prosecutors said they needed time to formalise agreements on a number of admissions by the defence. The accused 50-year-old woman has been on bail since March last year after DNA tests confirmed that the new girl at the school and a 17-year-old final-year student were in fact biological sisters. The new girl was the daughter of Celeste and Morne Nurse, whose first child was snatched as a three-day-old baby named Zephany in April 1997 from Cape Town’s Groote Schuur hospital. Police were alerted after Zephany’s parents became convinced the older girl was their missing baby. The parents looked on from the public gallery as the alleged kidnapper sat emotionless in

Vila-Abadal said FC Barcelona decided to establish its academy in Lagos due to the impressive population of the state, and the opportunity to share the philosophy of the team with the state. Oscar Grau, worldwide director of Barcelona Academy, said “it was indeed a big honour for the club to establish its Academy in Lagos, as many of the big names in the team started from such Academy”. He recalled that players like Messi, Iniesta, Sergio Busquet, Pique, among others, all started from such academy, and that the club has a unique methodology of instilling great virtues in footballers, apart from footballing skills and education. He added that through the academy, the club also aims to raise excellent players for Nigeria. Responding to the team’s plan on the academy, Ambode expressed readiness of

ACF to IPOB: Biafra agitation short on logic.

Image
Ibrahim Coomassie   The Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, and Ex-Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Coomassie, said the current agitations for a new Republic of Biafra by Igbo youths were based on “long emotions,” which he declared were “short on logic.” According to him, “While I am not trying to put any one on the spot, you will agree with me that these allegations (of marginalization against the North) have been around for many years. Yet, like all allegations made by angry people, they are long on emotions and short on logic. Coomasssie spoke at Nsukka while accepting the conferment of Honourary Doctor of Public Administration, DPA, on him, by the University of Nigeria, UNN,Saturday. “The problem of Nigeria has nothing to do with its size, diversity or attempt by any group to marginalise other nationalities. As was succinctly put by the late great literary giant, Chinua Achebe, the trouble with Nigeria is simply and squarely the failure of leadership.

I never gave Buhari ultimatum. Tompolo

Image
Former militant commander in the Niger Delta region, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly referred to as Tompolo, has denied giving President Muhammadu Buhari any ultimatum to withdraw soldiers from the region. The Niger Delta warlord had reportedly given the president an ultimatum to withdraw his soldiers from their region or they would continue blowing up oil pipelines in the area. A reports had also surfaced where Tompolo allegedly asked his boys to blow up pipelines if the soldiers remained on his heels following a court order to ensure his arrest. But Vanguard reports that Tompolo, on Monday, February 22, denied issuing any ultimatum to President Buhari to withdraw military from the region or he would blow up oil pipelines. Paul Bebenimibo, who spoke on behalf of the former militant, said the purported statement was trending on social media, adding: “We wish to state categorically that the said publication is not from Tompolo, rather it is the work of those that

The former Aviation Minister, in a statement made available to Channels Television, said he is amused by the Senator’s threat and he is waiting with baited breath for his actions. Mr Fani-Kayode who is a member of the PDP and one of the party leaders who are unhappy with the process which brought Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the new PDP national chairman, criticised the emergence of the former governor of Borno State as the new PDP Chairman, raising allegations of a link of the new party leader with the Boko Haram sect, a terrorist group which has killed hundreds of innocent Nigerians since it began its operations few years ago. The former minister says “we are more than ready to meet Senator Ali Modu Sheriff in court. It would be a pleasure to expose him for what he is. The days of intimidating, silencing and threatening others are long over. “If sheriff is a Goliath,

NO BANKING DAY: March 1

Image
The Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CAFON) and the Coalition of Nigerian Consumer Protection Associations have set aside Tuesday, March 1, 2016 as No Banking Day. In a publication signed by the president of the association, the action is to protest the increased bank charges imposed on bank costumers. The notice reads:  Dear Nigerian Banks Consumers.  For many years now, consumers of banking services have been subject to series of poor and unsatisfactory transaction and relationship terms. We have endured excessive charges, illegal fees and unfair contracts that only protects the bank but does not protect the consumers. Banks debit our accounts at will for charges we never agreed to or were not aware of; they charge us for every little service; we pay for getting our statements; introduction letters; and now, some banks are charging N200 for the use of deposit and transfer forms! Under the current CBN management, abolished fees are being reintroduced. ATM withdra

Buhari is going to Saudi Arabia to pray for Nigeria.

Olajumoke Orisaguna, Nigeria Cinderella. Rueben Abati writes.

Image
About three weeks ago, 27-year old Olajumoke Orisaguna was a complete unknown on the streets of Lagos, hawking bread. A loaf of bread is about N100, and even with a full tray such as she carried in her first public embrace of fame, her whole ware for a day may not be more than N3,000, with daily profit between N300-N700. She had trained as a hair stylist, got married but had to leave her husband and a daughter back home in Ire, Osun state, to “hustle” as it were in Lagos. The life of a bread seller in Lagos is easily imaginable: exposure to the elements, to sundry abuse, including the possibility of being raped by unruly artisans and bachelors, who will offer to buy bread and something else along with it, if the hawker is willing.  This was Olajumoke Orisaguna’s reality until she ran into TY Bello and Tinie Tempah and her life changed. Today, she has been enrolled as a model. Her story has appeared in all newspapers, on CNN, Huffington Post, and virtually everywhere

Woodward made the move after fearing that Inter Milan were about to offer Mourinho his old job back. Van Gaal is clinging to his role at Manchester United as Woodward is told to stop dithering over whether to sack him. The Dutchman has three games to save his career, starting with Monday's FA Cup tie at Shrewsbury.

Ahmed Mansour Karni, a 4-year old child, will be spending the rest of his life in prison following a court ruling in western Cairo on Tuesday. The little boy was convicted in absentia for several charges, including murder. Going by the timeline of events that led to the alleged crimes the youngster is being convicted for, Karni was about 2-years old at the time, as they occurred two years ago during the riots and demonstrations of January 3 2014. But his name was on a list of over a hundred people “wanted” for murder, disturbance of the peace and damaging state property. Prior to the ruling, a defense attorney, Faisal al-Saud, who said that Karni’s name ended on the list by mistake, presented the child’s birth certificate to the court, but it appears the material was not transferred and that the presiding judge did not review the case. “The child, Ahmed Mansour Karni’s birth certificate was presented after state security forces added his name to the list of accused, but the

We are not among those who will abandon good ideas,” he said. “If we see an idea that is good, we will adopt it. The Lagos-Kano project was awarded by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and we are flying with it. “The Lagos-Calabar project was awarded by former President Goodluck Jonathan and we are also flying with it. What we are doing is implementing those projects tha

By Lesley Chimezie One of the many promises President Muhammadu Buhari made to Nigerians during his presidential campaign was to bring Boko haram terrorism to an end. Considering the security challenges this group posed, many Nigerians voted him, believing he would keep his promises with his pedigree as a military man. He told the world in an interview at the Chatham House,UK that he would lead the war from the front. He also said. “Our soldiers have neither received the necessary support nor the required incentive to tackle this problem. Let me assure you that if I’m elected president, I vow to change that". “We will give them adequate modern arms and ammunition, we will improve intelligence gathering… we will be tough on terrorists and tough on its root causes… in the affected areas.” “No inch of Nigerian territory will ever be in the hands of the enemy." APC BLAME GAME CONTINUES. By Lesley Chimezie

Image
It has to be Jonathan's fault. Always. Since Buhari became President on May 29 2015, he has worked tirelessly to bring the promised change to Nigerians. But all his efforts have met with failures. Because of Jonathan. Today N1 would have been worth $1 if not for the sabotage of Jonathan's men. Prices of petrol would have reduced to less than N40. But Jonathan's men sabotaged the efforts. Nigeria would have been generating over 10000 Megawatts of electricity today. But we're still rationing power because of Jonathan. Investors are running away and others are afraid of coming to invest in Nigeria because Jonathan's men sabotaged Buhari by telling the world that Nigerians are criminals. The budget went missing, Jonathan's men stole it. It didn't end there. They always planted rats that ate part of the budget. As if it wasn't enough, Jonathan's men also prepared, submitted, signed and presented the budget to National Assembly without

Why Nnamdi Kanu is involved in Biafra struggle.- Kanu's father speaks.

HRM Eze Israel Okwu Kanu is the father of one of Nigeria’s controversial detainees, Nnamdi Kanu. He is the traditional ruler of Isiama Afara, a community in Umuahia, Abia state. In an interview with Ihuoma Chiedozie of The Punch newspaper, HRM Kanu senior talks about the personality of his son, the reasons behind his involvement in the struggle for the actualization of Biafra and many more. Below are excerpts from the exclusive chat; As a child, was he troublesome, considering his activities with Indegenous People of Biafra and Radio Biafra? No, he was not a troublemaker. In fact he went out of his way to avoid trouble. If anything would cause a quarrel between him and anybody, he would rather avoid such a matter. He was actually peace loving and gentle. Also, he was not a person of many words, he was reserved. But what I noticed about him, as he was growing up, was that he detested injustice. He did not like to see a fellow human being victimised. He would never be part
