MY PEN BLEEDS (Poem)

By Lesley Chimezie Nwankwo

It’s so loud inside my head
With words that I should have said.

I try to let them out but words continue to fail
I can feel my head swell and my heart wail under the weight of my burdens.

Still they keep piling; things I have to let out
But I choke each time I open my mouth.

I’m drowning

My souls weeps, my heart bleeds
As the storm rages, the flood rises, thrashing against the walls of my defense.
No! I gotta be strong. Only the weak cry.
But my soul weeps.

And since they can’t see tears coming down my eyes,
I gotta make my pen cry.

Through each alphabet, stroke, kink and curve my heart is bleeding.
So much to say, so much to write, not enough hands.
Never knew so much good could come from staining this plain white plank of wood.

My heart bleeds

Arteries pump passion
Releasing pressure in my head through my fingers to my pen
As I let the words fly

My souls weeps

But it feels so right
My heart is bleeding
…….Life into my pen
…….Onto this paper
I may not always find the words to speak out loud
But my pen does.

My pen weeps

MY PEN BLEEDS.
