Let Us Talk About PRETTY PRIVILEGES

It’s normal to see a lady go on lavish vacations in exquisite locations with no single dime in the pocket. (Or purse). For am man to be able to afford the same trip he may need to work his socks off for some months (or years, as the case may be). And sometimes he may need to collaborate with some friends in order to chest the expenses.

But here we have a female without a job, a skill or source of income of any sort making these trips multiple times. Simple because she has a pretty face.

This example explains the basic concept of the infamous pretty privilege; which I never knew was a thing until recently.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong in a person receiving preferential treatment or advantages based on their physical looks. I mean I wouldn’t mind getting stuff for free simply because I have a big head.

My only problem is with those sisters who make it a full time job.

If we’re being honest to ourselves, then we’ll all agree that being physically attractive is always an added advantage. With emphasis on “ADDED”. A pretty/handsome face could get you that interview, it could make the difference in that interview. A pretty face could help be what makes that business sail through. Simply put; physical attraction can get you a foot through the door. It could be that launch pad that one needs in their careers or any other phase in their lives.

The big question is WHAT ARE YOU ADDING THE PRETTY LOOKS TO? Good character/morals, hard work, commitment, intellect? Which of these values form the bases upon which you add the pretty looks? If your beauty gets you through the door, what do you do next? If your good looks launch you forward, how do you sustain the height or take it further without crashing back to the ground?

In essence, what else do you have to offer apart from your pretty looks?

A pretty look is not a cure for poverty. It is only an asset. One that could easily turn to a liability if misused.

Remember, no one stays pretty forever. All it takes is one accident and that pretty look is gone forever. Even if we’re fortunate not to experience such accidents, life would still happen to us eventually and we’d lose that advantage. Either because there are others who are younger and more attractive or because those who would offer us the opportunities have realised that our attractive looks are not just enough to meet their needs.

In summary, if all you have to offer as a person is your pretty face, then you are of all people most miserable.
