Rivers Rerun: Group Decries Theft of Result Sheets.
Group calls for public identification and prosecution
*Fault over 20, 000 security operatives deployed for deliberate laxity to create room for pre-meditated theft
A group, Media Development Initiative, MDI, has called on security agencies to immediately identify and prosecute those involved in the theft of 520 result sheets for 520 polling units in Rivers State.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday night, the group said that the theft of the result sheets in custody of Federal Government agencies is disheartening.
The Statement signed by Mrs Georgina Awaule regretted that despite the deployment of over 20,000 security personnel , sensitive result sheets could be stolen.
The group called on all civil and international observers to remain vigilant as the security agencies who allowed the theft may have been compromised.
They also berated Aniedi Ikoiwak, INEC REC in Rivers State who confirmed the missing result sheets for negligence. They wondered why Ihoiwak would also not confess that APC leaders were prominent on the INEC Adhoc list as has been confirmed by Gift Worlu, an APC member and lecturer at UNIPORT.
According to the group, it is unfortunate that INEC, security agencies and Adhoc staff by the theft of the result sheets have proven that they were involved in under-the-table activities.
They urged Rivers people not to be intimidated but to remain focused in monitoring the entire process from the distribution of voting materials to collation and the declaration of results.
The statement read: "This theft of result sheets as unfortunate as it is an eye-opener that Rivers people must remain vigilant. It is not the number of security operatives in the state that matter, it is the vigilance of the people that count. Nobody knows who is a thief in this process" .
