We Celebrate Frivolity

Nigeria is a country that abounds with so many talents. Ironically, we also double as a people who don't value talents.

There is a long list of talented individuals who struggled in Nigeria but went overseas and excelled because their talents were better appreciated.
The list includes Anthony AlozieFrancis Obikwelu, just to mention a few.

Even the likes of Dare Art Alade and Asa; who are award winning singers, they had a hard time surviving in the Nigerian industry. Until they took their arts outside where their talents were given proper recognition.

In Nigeria people are celebrated not because of their talents but according to the level of noise they are able to raise.

As at the time of writing this, Bobrisky has 2.4 million followers on Instagram. (It was the only time I ever visited his page). Same people who openly condemn what he stands for but would be the first to repost whatever thing he posts. I keep asking myself; "what talent does he have that garners this amount of followership? Or do Nigerians really believe in what he stands for?
There is another boy who was caught in homosexual act some time ago. Right now he is fast gaining popularity. Guess who is giving him the popularity? The same hypocrites who come out openly to condemn his actions.

Nigeria is the only country where a Naira Marley gets more followership than a Timi Dakolo or Johnny Drille.

Okay, let's leave that particular matter, at least Marley does music that people can dance to even though the lyrics are trash.

Let me talk about Mercy Eke and Tasha, two ladies  have dominated they Nigerian social media space for some time now with 'Titans' and 'Lamborghini' supposed fans abusing and fighting each other on almost a daily basis. What exactly is/are the talent(s) they bring to the table?
Unfortunately, you do not need talent to be celebrated in Nigeria, all you need is a high noise value and boom; you're a celebrity.
