PROTOCOL.

PREAMBLE

Permit me to thank Oganihi Omuma Forum (OOF) for their continued effort in ensuring that Omuma is truly not left behind. You have continued to distinguish yourself among several other entities in Omuma. You have been able to carve a niche for yourself by regularly at least on annual basis, identify the needs of Omuma people, including social, economic, educational and even spiritual needs as demonstrated by your sister forum, Omuma Youth for Christ. I am as usual happy and feel privileged to be called upon to speak once more before this distinguished special cream and crop of Omuma land. Nu kanka.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Drug abuse: refers to the ways or manners of misusing medicine in terms of over dose it, or diverting its purpose.

Drug Addiction: this refers to state of being used to drug abuse. It is a default state of what I refer to as hypnotic rhythm. A state of continued intake of drugs in a way that it becomes part of that individual.

Social Implication: Social is nuanced to be same as people. Social implies the interaction that exists between human population. The social here is the people you meet and talk with on daily or intermittent basis.

INTRODUCTION

• Excessive use of psychoactive drugs, such as alcohol, pain medications or illegal drugs, can lead to physical, social or emotional harm. Addiction is a disease that affects your brain and behavior. When you’re addicted to drugs, you can’t resist the urge to use them, no matter how much harm the drugs may cause. The earlier you get treatment for drug addiction (also called substance use disorder) the more likely you are to avoid some of the more dire consequences of the disease.

• Drug addiction is not about just heroin, cocaine, or other illegal drugs. You can get addicted to alcohol, nicotine, sleep and anti-anxiety medications, and other legal substances.

• You can also get addicted to prescription or illegally obtained narcotic pain medications, or opioids.

SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS OF DRUG ADDICTION AND ABUSE

Drug abuse as stated earlier, or its addiction stage has some social implications. Social implications refer to the impact excessive intake of drugs cause on relationships with others.

  • Momentary loss of concentration
  • Loss of memory
  • Terminal Ailment – which could lead people out of work or economic break
  • Crime Push
  • Rape or excessive desire for sex
