Mr. Ige was a guard to Olu Falae, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and was killed during a raide on Mr. Falae’s farm.

The OPC issued a threat that if the police did not apprehend the killers in 24 hours that their members would avenge the death of Mr. Ige. It is suspected that Mr. Ige was killed by Fulani herdsman, an event which has threatened to exacerbate ethnic tensions in Ondo State.

Pius Ogunsanya, the Ondo State Coordinator of OPC, who spoke while meeting with the embattled Governor Olusegun Mimiko called on the State the federal government to put an end to all senseless killings in the country.

Mr. Ogunsanya emphasized that the OPC would use violence if the security agencies and government continues to keep mute over the senseless killing of innocents in Ondo State.

Two aggrieved members of the OPC, Toyin Olaoye and Stephen Lawal, stated that the death Mr. Ige was a sign that the suspected Fulani nomadic herdsmen are threatening Ondo residents.

Responding, Governor Mimiko, said that the OPC should avoid taking the laws into their own hands and that it would only make tensions worse in Ondo State.

Governor Mimiko said the security agencies led by the State Commissioner of Police, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, are up to the task and currently on the trail of those behind the killing of the late OPC member.
