Game of Hearts. Episode 2: Heart Break

She locked herself indoors and cried her heart out for hours during the day. And at night she continued until she fell asleep. Pain and despair became her closest companions as she shut everyone else out.

How would she explain to anyone that she had just been used and discarded just like that? She just couldn’t bring herself to tell anyone what had happened, the shame was just too much to bear. Her heart bled with anguish because the signs were clear for her to see right from the start. How could she have ignored all of them?
How could she have let down her guard so easily? She had vowed never to walk this path again. How did he get past all her defences? All these and many more questions kept nagging at her and she couldn’t find answer to any of them.
Eventually she came out wearing a mask of happiness and self confidence. Even though deep down she felt dirty and ashamed. But masquerading was of little use. The news was all over town, everyone knew what had happened. They all greeted and talked to her like everything was normal, but once she has passed the pouted the lips and twitched their noses at her.
“Why are you looking so gloomy like the whole world has come to an end?”  That was her closest confidant, after she finally decided to open up to someone.
“Yes, actually, I feel like my world has ended”. She responded. “Everyone tries to act nice to my face, but once I turn my back, I can feel their eyes boring holes on my back. I can feel their disdain.
“Stop being a child. Grow up”. The confidant replied. “Who cares what anyone thinks”?
“You don’t get it”. She sobbed. “I made a vow, I couldn’t keep it. I’m a disappointment. I just feel... “
Her friend’s hysterical laughter couldn’t allow her finish her statement. “Don’t tell me this was your first time”.
“No, it’s not. But.. “
“But what? Abeg who chastity epp? This is your life and this is your opportunity to enjoy it. Oh! I see. You’re afraid of disappointing your parents.”
She broke into another feat of laughter.
What’s wrong with her friend? How cold she find such an issue to be funny?
“Relax church girl, mummy’s pet”. Her friend continued. “Nobody will tell daddy what happened. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Go ahead have fun. Or you wanna tell me you didn’t enjoy it?”
She suddenly looked down as if she dropped something on the floor. And with a sheepish smile she responded. “Well... “
“Well you enjoyed it”. Her friends helped her complete it. And she nodded in affirmation like an Agama lizard.  “So stop feeling sorry for yourself, enjoy life while you can”. “Life’s too short to start playing love games with any guy, love sucks. Guys think they can be players, let us show them we invented the game”.
On and on her friend went, until she began to feel less and less sorry for herself. And more hatred and resentment for the guy and every other make folk out there.
That was when she made up her mind to deal with guys. Make them pay for what he had to her.
