Let Us Talk About PRETTY PRIVILEGES

Image
It’s normal to see a lady go on lavish vacations in exquisite locations with no single dime in the pocket. (Or purse). For am man to be able to afford the same trip he may need to work his socks off for some months (or years, as the case may be). And sometimes he may need to collaborate with some friends in order to chest the expenses.  But here we have a female without a job, a skill or source of income of any sort making these trips multiple times. Simple because she has a pretty face. This example explains the basic concept of the infamous pretty privilege; which I never knew was a thing until recently. Now, don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong in a person receiving preferential treatment or advantages based on their physical looks. I mean I wouldn’t mind getting stuff for free simply because I have a big head. My only problem is with those sisters who make it a full time job. If we’re being honest to ourselves, then we’ll all agree that being physically attractive is alwa...

NO ONE STAYS IN ONE POSITION FOR LONG

Image
By Lesley Chimezie Nwankwo. Time is in a constant (perpetual) forward motion. Consequently, everything under the influence of time must adapt and move along with it or get left behind, becomes obsolete and forgotten. It is on this premise that I have come to believe that it is impossible for anyone or anything to be stagnated or remain in a particular state for too long. If you find yourself running or moving "in a circle", there is a very big chance that you are actually moving in a downward spiral. You are either moving forward or you're moving backwards. There is a very limited opening for middle ground. This is because life moves at a consistently fast pace. One needs to equally be in a consistent forward motion in order to keep up. The only time you are permitted to stay at one position for a while is when you are consolidating on a win or establishing yourself in a newly conquered territory. After that time, IT IS IMPORTANT TO MOVE ON. Or you risk being stuck, froze...

The Untapped Power of Play

Image
An article written by Lesley Chimezie Nwankwo  We live in a time where everything and everyone is moving at lightening speed and everything is far becoming digitised . In our hectic, modern lives, many of us focus so heavily on work and family commitments that we never seem to have time for fun or play. We get so encumbered with responsibilities that the concept of play gets easily overlooked or dismissed as an exclusive reserve for children. However, the power of play transcends childhood games. In fact they hold immense potentials that could enrich our lives even as adults. Good old organic play has the power to positively impact various facets of our lives. Including our physical health, mental well-being, intellectual acuity and emotional development. Ø   The Science of Play Scientifically, researches have shown that playful behaviours have positive effects on the brain. It enhances cognitive abilities. According to a research done using animals, (Barros et Al 201...

MUST WE ALL BE LEADERS?

Image
Being an article by Lesley Chimezie Nwankwo . Overtime we have had our minds conditioned to believe that we are all supposed to be leaders. We attend “Leadership Summits” and Trainings so often, where we are taught how to be leaders. We are taught characteristics that make people leaders and made to believe that only people who become leaders get ahead in life. As a result, we tend to look down on certain people whom we believe do not exhibit these characteristics. However, one truth we all must embrace sooner rather than later is that WE CANNOT ALL BE LEADERS. But it does not mean that we cannot make meaningful impact or indeed be successful. We can all be committed followers, doggedly sold out on the dreams and willing to do what it takes to actualise the visions of our leaders. Like in every system: a car, a machine, a beehive, the human body or a wolf pack, every member or component has a role to play for the overall success of the system Not every wolf gets to be alpha. Not every ...
