And The Man of the Year Is...... GEJ!!!

The Nigerian public has voted former President Goodluck Jonathan as The Man of the Year. In a poll conducted by The Orange News Group, Jonathan beat Senator Ben Murray Bruce and President Buhari to clinch the award. The result was announced in a publication by the group on its website.

Two weeks ago, we put up a call to the public to suggest remarkable personalities whose eff orts have impacted Nigeria in a good way this year.
The response trickled in daily then we did a shortlist down to three candidates and asked the public to cast their votes and let us know who among them should be given the MAN OF THE YEAR honors for 2015.
The response was overwhelming. Many Nigerians across the country not only sent in their votes but also shared the poll with their friends asking them to go in and vote for the personality of their choice.
After a week of voting, the Orange News Team did a collation of the votes from the audience and it became glaring that former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan received the highest personality nomination.
Many cited different reasons for this but most of them were of the opinion that the ex-president deserved to have the honor because he had promised to peacefully exit office if he lost out in the 2015 presidential elections and this he did much to the applause of not only Nigerians but also the international community. This is also an act that is said to have subverted the imminent post-election violence that would have broken out across the nation, leading to the killing of Nigerians.  He is quoted to have said his political ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.
Many were also of the view that Jonathan had been given honors by the international community this year citing his post-election stance and thus they widely recommended him to be given the honors.
We in Orange News believe in making the voices and choices of the masses get heard. We believe the public should not be mere spectators in happenings around them but that they should be able to participate and shape the direction of the progress of their nation by airing their choices, grievances or applause.
With this in view, due to popular choice, we hereby present the MAN OF THE YEAR 2015 honors to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, a man whose single act of conceding defeat helped avoid wide-spread post elections bloodshed and whose antecedents many see to have been the framework for a better Nigeria before he left office despite the distractions he faced.
Jonathan is also called the “Hero of Democracy” because of his exceptional leadership skills which is seen to be different from politicians of his time. During his regime, he was an advocate of democratic principles. He has in his legacy election transparency, among other indicators like the economy, agriculture, infrastructure, open government and education as pointers.
He is said to have placed Nigeria as number one in foreign direct investment in Africa and also made efforts to diversify the economy from its mono focus on oil.
His respect for the rule of law served to change the political and social climate of our country for the better.
