Giggs becomes first casualty of Mourinho era at Man Utd

Ryan Giggs is unhappy at the appointment of Jose Mourinho with the possibility of him being demoted from his assistant manager role, according to the Independent.

Jose Mourinho was announced as Manchester United manager earlier on Friday and is expected to bring in his own staff, strengthening the possibility of Giggs leaving the club. Giggs has been at the club for 29 years now but having missed out on the managers job he covets on two occasions now the Welshman is reportedly considering leaving the club.

Giggs is currently in Dubai and has asked the board to give him some time to consider his future and whether he wants to work under the Portuguese manager.

At the moment just Giggs and Nicky Butt remain at the club from the "Class of 92" with Butt the head of the academy at Old Trafford
Giggs had previously hoped to be given the managerial role when David Moyes was sacked but Louis Van Gaal was instead chosen and having been ignored for a second time his future remains in doubt.

Mourinho is expected to bring in his usual number two, Rui Faria, to sit alongside him in the dugout.

Giggs is the only member of Louis van Gaal's backroom staff still at the club but he could be set to leave the club with the likelihood of the managerial role he craves becoming available in the coming few years very slim
Mourinho signed a three year contract on Thursday with the option of extending his contract for a further 12 months if he sees fit.
