Gov. Wike explains why they ditched Sherriff.
Governor Nyesom Wike revealed that the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, had to be removed because his continued stay was destabilising the party.
Wike, who was also the chairman of the 2016 PDP National Convention Planning Committee, said he will not be alive and watch the party die.
He said “This is destabilising the party and so we had to let him go. What is important is the party and not the individual. No sacrifice is too much for anyone to make as far as PDP is concerned.”“We will not allow the PDP to die or suffer divisions under our watch. History will never forgive us if we watch the party die.”Also speaking on the development at the convention, a member of the House of Reps, Johnson Agbonayinma, said the dissolution of the National Working Committee, will help reposition the party.
He also accused Sheriff of trying to perpetuate himself and make himself bigger than the party.
He also said “Alli Modu Sheriff is not the bone of contention; we have put everything to rest.“Now PDP is set like never before to pilot its affairs and ensure that dividends of democracy are provided to the people.”Meanwhile, reports say Sheriff announced the suspension of its National Convention, citing numerous court cases as the reason the decision.
